Welcome to my blog about trying to get dry and clean for my son with spina bifida. He is 8 years old. We recently had the MACE and MONTI surgery done and I am documenting the recovery and process. On the side bar there are categories of: Before surgery, during and recovery. Feel free to click on those to find what you are looking for quickly. The clean out

So if I havent scared you away from this by now.

Congrats.

This is going to be a before surgery post.

Now, please be reminded this is our experience with this surgery and this is our doctor. Not all doctors go about things the same way.

24 hours before surgery my son wasnt allowed to eat. And then for a big chunk (honestly im going blank on how long) he wasnt allowed to drink.

I thought it was horrible. I thought that our doctor was mean.  But then I realized many doctors do it differently.

We were blessed to not have to go into the hospital before hand and we were blessed to stay at home.  Before surgery we did some miralax and a nice flush from the cone enema.

But that was it.  The 24 hours stunk real bad.  He was mad and irritable. We hid the other kids when they ate, but we made it through.

I found a pretty good description of what lots of doctors do instead of this.

From what I've hear Golytely is rough. beyond rough.  Once we read about this we were super thankful for the way our doctor did it.

I dont think there is one way better over the other just differences of opinions.  Our option might be something you might want to discuss with your doctor. He might be open to it.
