Worth it.

We have had a rough road with this surgery.   Its not an easy one. (and im not even the one going through it)

But I can say worth it. We had to do 2 surgeries to get dry...and right now we arent totally out of the danger period of saying it for sure worked...but I can honestly say....WORTH IT.

We started with a bladder neck sling and it just didnt do the trick....he ended up with a fistula that got that urine out right through his penis no matter how much we didnt want it out.

Then we did a bladder neck closure. This was a big decision because its risky. You HAVE to cath on time. You have to be willing to take a risk. Honestly going through everything else and to stop at the bladder neck closure was just dumb to us. So we moved forward.  We are about 2 months out from the bladder neck closure and weve been dry for 3 days.

If you arent at the dry part of this surgery let me just say

ITS MIRACULOUS.  Every tear, ever frantic call, every stomach ache, every minute in the waiting room, every bag getting in the way of life....its forgotten.  

Its like childbirth...man it super sucks....but so totally miraculously worth it.  These doctors should get awards...huge gigantic plaques every time this works and another kid is dry.

Seeing my son in undies. To not have him worry. For him to be clean. For him to be dry.  People I just cant tell you...weve been some worse case scenerios with this surgery....and its still worth it.

And can I add....even my 8 year old. Who Ive seen go through harder junk then I can ever imagine has said..."Mom, its worth it."    That should speak volumes.  If an 8 year old can say that then WOW.

He's clean. He's dry. No more pullups and we are fixing to say no more pads. 

Dont not do this surgery out of fear. I realize the fear is real and is legit. But dont let the fear stop you. Be informed. Do your research.  But dont let fear stop you.  My 8 year old is independent. Hes cathing. Hes doing his own bowel program. He is rocking this and he is PROUD.     So totally worth it....  And I can even say, Id do it all over again if it meant the end result was clean and dry.... Its a journey, its a road and man there are days when it sucks....but its awesome in the end.

I will say dont go through this with a doctor you are unsure about. Know him, like him and trust him...or find someone you do.  It made all the difference.
